Age UK Tameside are working in partnership with Action Together to deliver the Ambition for Ageing program in three pilot wards in Tameside.

The program, funded by the Big Lottery Fund UK, aims to improve the lives of older people by investing in ideas that improve social ambition-for-ageingconnection within communities. The Ambition for Ageing pilot scheme is now up and running, and we are working closely with people aged 50 plus in Ashton Waterloo, Denton South and Hyde Newton.

Following consultations, funding has already been approved for several community initiatives – these are just a few of the groups benefiting from the project:

  • Richmond Street community centre in Ashton Waterloo is due to open this autumn. Funding from Ambition for Ageing will go towards big-lottery-fundaccessible toilets for the building.
  • Cranbrook Gardens residents group will receive funding to install raised beds to make it easier for their members to garden.
  • Age UK Tameside put on dementia-friendly bowling sessions at the Park Centre on Haughton Green Playing Fields and Waterloo Park, Store Street in Ashton Waterloo.
  • A new craft group at Rosemount Methodist Church on Fridays, Busy Fingers, applied for funding for a banner to advertise the group to passers-by.
