The at home surroundings of our Independent Living Centre in Ashton-under-Lyne is the ideal setting for you or a loved one to spend your day if in need of a little bit of support and company.

It’s also a great way of getting out and about and making new friends.

Clients can either make their own way here or we can arrange your transport for you. Once at the Independent Living Centre, everyone enjoys a natter in the dining room over a cuppa and a light breakfast followed by a choice of quizzes, singing groups, arts and crafts sessions, exercise groups and much more to join in with. It’s a chance to keep your mind and body active and healthy.

Making sure people feel comfortable and relaxed is very important to us. So as well as being designed to be welcoming to all, including people with dementia, the Independent Living Centre is a real “home from home”. You can settle down in one of our armchairs to read the paper or chat with a friend, just like you would in your own living room. And at dinnertime, you can enjoy one of our delicious, home-cooked meals. We’re very proud of our food – it’s freshly made every day and our kitchen was recently awarded another 5* Food Hygiene Rating.

And family members appreciate the knowledge that their loved one is well looked after whilst at the Independent Living Centre. “The staff and volunteers have been wonderful,” explains Stella, whose husband, James, comes every week. “I don’t know what we’d do without it, especially me. It just gives me a bit of time to myself, which I would never have otherwise.”

What can you expect?
You can expect care that is matched to your needs, which we will monitor and review regularly. We will discuss your changing needs on a regular basis with you, your family and carers to ensure you are happy.
At Age UK Tameside, we believe in choice. We work with individuals to choose the support that is best for them. We value dignity, treat individuals with empathy and respect and ensure our services are inclusive.
Are you eligible for Age UK Tameside’s Day Support?
Many people over the age of 50 who live in Tameside and Glossop can utilise Day Support. To see if Day Support is appropriate for you (or someone you care for), a member of staff will meet with you to talk about the type of help and support you need. If you choose to come to Day Support, we will undertake a thorough assessment to create a person centred package of care, ensuring that you or your loved one’s needs are being met whilst at our centre.
You can arrange this by contacting the Independent Living Centre on 0161 308 5000.
Unfortunately, if you are assessed as high need or risk, you will not be eligible for Day Support from Age UK Tameside. However, we may be able to offer you advice and other help, or put you in touch with other organisations who may be able to help.
