Time Out Volunteer Co-ordinator –18 month Fixed Term (Apr 2019-Sep 2020)

Hours of Work: 15 hours

Rate of pay: £19,240 p.a. (pro rata)

Responsible to: Operations Manager

Responsible for: A small team of volunteers

Location:  Age UK Teesside Befriending Service Office (Dormanstown) and partner organisation premises across Redcar

Job Purpose and Role: To develop and deliver a reliable volunteer led service to be utilised by carers to provide opportunity to take a break from their caring role.

To develop and maintain a database of volunteers and match them appropriately with the cared for

Overall Aims: To provide a safe and reliable offer to carers to attend social activities and to provide the cared for a suitable match whilst the carer is out.

To work with partner organisations (Redcar and Cleveland Mind and Carers Together) to increase carers and cared for overall well-being and increase independence

The duties will require the post holder to:

Project Delivery

  • Develop a low level volunteer led Time Out service to be utilised by carers to provide opportunity to take a break from their caring role
  • To appropriately recruit, train and support volunteers to undertake a befriending role to cared for individuals
  • Develop and maintain a database of volunteers
  • To work with the wider Carers Service to provide information to carers
  • Develop a flexible framework for delivery, including registration
  • Work collaboratively with other providers to achieve best outcomes for carers, across provider sites

Project Management

  • Maintain systems necessary to record information regarding the service
  • Collect information to assist in the evaluation and overall effectiveness of the service against the set outcomes.  Prepare information on improvements and future developments
  • Develop and maintain a database of volunteers and the Time Out service needs, to be accessible to the local authority for monitoring purposes
  • Work with other providers and prepare information on improvements and future development

Communication

  • To work closely with wider Carers Service providers and liaise with all partners and commissioners on a regular basis
  • Work with partners and other identified agencies to promote the service
  • Work within AUKT policies and procedures
  • Training and Development
  • Actively engage with training and development of volunteers
  • Develop knowledge of Time Out  projects and share learning with providers

Health and Safety

  • Work within AUKT policies and procedures

General

  • Work in a positive and professional manner will all partners, stakeholders and relevant organisations to promote the project
  • Due to the nature of this project certain tasks are unpredictable and varied and the post holder is therefore expected to be flexible and take on tasks which are not detailed in the job description
  • Attend all relevant meetings related to this role

  • Confirmation of this post will be subject to a satisfactory enhanced level DBS check
