Job title: Community and Events Fundraising Officer

Wage: £20,500 - £22,000

Introduction:

Job purpose:

  • Develop new community fundraisers for Age UK Thanet, with a focus on runs, challenge events and community fundraising, both on and off-line.
  • Develop new fundraising products focused on individuals and community groups, including the development of a mass participation event.
  • Ensure that Fundraising Regulator guidelines are followed.
  • Represent Age UK Thanet with excellent public speaking and social media skills.
  • An empathy for older people and a belief that they should be empowered to make their own informed choices in their own lives is paramount to this role.

Principle duties and responsibilities:

  • Support the Fundraising Manager in the development of the new community and events fundraising annual plan and three-year strategy, incorporating digital fundraising alongside traditional methods.
  • Develop new community events and materials, including a fundraising guide and other fundraising resources such as medals.
  • Produce and implement multi-channel marketing plans to promote a range of events.
  • Maximise the use of digital and social media to promote events and steward supporters.
  • Refine the supporter experience for all local Age UK Thanet fundraisers, maximising engagement at all stages of their journey.
  • Identify challenge events to tactically promote to Age UK Thanet supporters.
  • Manage the project specific expenditure budgets and report on community and events income.
  • Manage suppliers, printers and designers, and work with event providers when required.
  • Develop and cultivate relationships with sponsored event participants and community fundraisers to maximise income and encourage repeat participation.
  • Maintain the stock of resources and materials for Age UK Thanet events.
  • Pro-actively steward community fundraisers, providing them with the resources they need and keeping them updated with upcoming fundraising events they may be interested in on their supporter journey.
  • Write inspiring content for supporter communications and update fundraising pages of Age UK Thanet’s website.
  • Assist with record keeping using a sales database/ fundraising databases.
  • Understand the importance of reaching KPIs and contingency planning, particularly if there is a community and events fundraising target shortfall.
  • Have a curiosity to understand all aspects of Age UK Thanet’s work and to keep abreast of any emerging community fundraising developments.
  • Be friendly and courteous to fellow staff members and have a willingness to understand where fundraising could benefit their work.
  • Be flexible in your approach and be aware that activities will be organised in the evenings and at weekends as required.
  • Cover fundraising activities in times of annual leave and sickness.
  • Follow policies and procedures and Covid-19 guidelines.

Person Specification:

Essential

  • GCSE English & Maths or equivalent.
  • Full clean driving licence.
  • Sales/or Fundraising Database training.
  • Intermediate training in Microsoft Office packages.
  • Two years’ experience of Community Fundraising or working in the Digital sector.
  • Experience with Microsoft packages and data entry software systems.
  • The ability to work as an individual and part of a team.
  • The ability to accept responsibility and cope under pressure.
  • The ability to organise your own workload & meet multiple deadlines.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Understanding of confidentiality, GDPR and safeguarding.
  • Have a flexible approach, because at times you might need to work the occasional weekend.
  • Have focus on providing excellent customer service.
  • Have a positive attitude to your own health and a strong work attendance record.

Desirable

  • Institute of Fundraising Certificate.
  • Experience of conveying challenging social issues, such as loneliness and isolation.
  • Experience of developing a strong digital consumer/or supporter following.
  • Understand Fundraising policies and procedures.
  • Have an enquiring mind and understand the challenges that older people face.
  • Able to trust your instinct and have the confidence to pilot new products.
