Age UK Wakefield District is running a new Falls Prevention exercise class
Fall prevention is a variety of actions to help reduce the number of accidental falls suffered by older people.
Approximately 30% of older people who fall lose their self-confidence and start to go out less often. Inactivity leads to social isolation and loss of muscle strength as well as balance, increasing the risk of falling. Our Falls Prevention session aims to break that cycle, engaging people in a range of relevant falls prevention strategies.
The exercises focus on four key areas important to the health and fitness of mature participants:
- Low impact cardiovascular
- Dynamic/static balance work
- Strength training and stretching
- Providing social stimulation as well as physical benefits
Unfortunately we are unable to offer a Falls Prevention class at the present time, but hope we will be doing something again soon
