Bereavement Advice and Support Service - BASS - offers practical advice and emotional support to bereaved people over the age of 18.

Wakefield CCG have commissioned NOVA in partnership with Age UK Wakefield District and Cruse Bereavement Care to provide a service that will support people over the age of 18 who have been bereaved.  The Bereavement Advice and Support Service will offer individuals practical, financial advice and emotional support, through a Single Point of Access.

Specifically the service will provide:

  • Information and advice on rights, benefits, pensions and other services required following a bereavement
  • Information, signposting and referral to other specialist agencies who can help
  • Practical solutions and assistance
  • Emotional support to improve health and wellbeing

This will be done through

  • One to one support
  • Telephone support
  • Email support
  • Drop in sessions
  • Social support groups

Mutual support groups

Mutual support groups offer an opportunity for you to meet people in a similar position for an informal chat. These groups can be accessed either as a drop-in or by referral from a health professional.

Tuesday

Age UK Wakefield District, Lock Lane Centre, Back William Street, Castleford, WF10 2LW

Drop-in advice session and support group, 10.30am - 12noon.

Wednesday

St George's Community Centre, Broadway, Lupset, Wakefield, WF2 8AA

Drop-in advice session and support group, 1.30pm - 3.00pm.

Home visits

We offer home visits to bereaved people who have difficulty accessing our services. Our specially trained Bereavement Support Workers provide one-to-one emotional support, advice and information.

Advocacy

The advocacy service provides more long term one-to-one support to make informed decisions about your life. Advocates can help you to understand your rights and ensure that you are treated fairly.
