At Age UK Wandsworth, we are committed to supporting our older Wandsworth residents throughout this crisis and we are working hard to ensure the most vulnerable are supported.
Here are just some of the ways we can provide additional support at this time
We have a new service 'Independent Shopper' to support those older people who are not able to get to the shops due to the pandemic. We set up the online grocery account and then do the first few online grocery shops over the telephone. Going forwards we can support people to do the online shopping themselves. 2) Exercise and Wellbeing
We have another new service called 'Active Chats' which matches older people with trained telephone befrienders who will call up for a chat and to work through some gentle seated exercises and mindfulness/breathing. 3) Information and Advice
We have additional capacity on our advice team to ensure we can support everyone who needs us. Our team can help ensure that older residents have the money they are entitled to and advice on any issue that concerns them. 4) LGBTQ+ Chats
LGBTQ+ Chats is new service aimed at supporting older LGBTQ+ residents who may need additonal support at this time when so many other services are closed. This services matched older LGBTQ+ residents with LGBTQ+ volunteers from the community for telephone befriending and seated exercise/mindfulness. 5) All other services operating, with some changes
Be a Friend - Our befriending services are now all taking place over the telephone but we are really happy to take on new service users.
Handyperson service - This service is operating with a focus on hospital discharge and falls prevention work.
Hospital Discharge Support- This service is operating and volunteers are able to deliver items (eg prescriptions, shopping) to service users.
Digipals - This service is able to offer support over the telephone and limited home visits in exceptional circumstances.
5) Our offices are open but not for drop-ins
Our amazing staff team are continuing to man the office in 'bubble' groups and are available to offer telephone support and appointments booked in advance. Our office hours are Monday to Thursday 10am to 3pm. The telephone number is 020 8877 8940
