Falls Awareness Week 2018

Many people think falls are a natural part of ageing but this is NOT true. Most falls can be prevented and you have the power to reduce your risk through building up your strength, flexibility and energy levels. You can build all these up gradually, a tailored exercise programme can reduce falls by as much as 54%.

Falls Awarness Week Events:

For Falls Awareness week 2018 we are involved in a number of events:

Monday 24th September:

Cumbria Stop Falls event at Aspatria Library, Age UK staff will be available to provide information about falls prevention and our services, you can also get a strength & balance taster session and swap your older slippers for a new pair FREE 2.00-4.00pm

Cumbria Stop Falls event at Silloth Community Hall, Wigton Road Silloth, Age UK staff will be available to provide information about falls prevention and our services, you can also get a strength & balance taster session and swap your older slippers for a new pair FREE 1.00-3.00pm

Tuesday 25th September:

Falls prevention talk at the Community Coffee and Crack Coffee Morning in Old Customs House, Whitehaven, 10.00-12.00pm

Falls Prevention Awareness Day working in partnership with Millom Integrated Care Community there will be community pharmacist, physiotherapist, injury rehabilitator, blood pressure checks and more. At the Bradbury Centre, St George's Road, Millom, 11.00am-2.00pm. Cumbria County Council will also be there offering a slipper swap where you can trade in your old slippers for a new pair for FREE.

Falls Prevention talk particularly focusing on those living with memory loss and dementia at the Dementia Group in the De Lucy Centre, Egremont, 10.00am-12.00pm

Cumbria Stop Falls event at Keswick Senior Citizens Club Drop in Coffee Morning, Heads Road, Keswick, Age UK staff will be available to provide information about falls prevention and our services, you can also get a strength & balance taster session and swap your older slippers for a new pair FREE 10.00am-12.00pm

Wednesday 26th September:

Information stand about Falls Prevention with an Age UK staff member there to answer any questions at the Whitehaven Library from 10.00am until 12.00pm

Seascale Information drop in at Seascale Library with Age UK staff member available to provide information about falls prevention and answer any questions 1.30-3.30pm

Thursday 27th September:

Information about falls prevention will be available at the Drop-in at the Bradbury Centre, St George's Road in Millom with Age UK staff available to answer any questions 9.30-11.30am

Tea Dance at the Workington Leisure Centre, 2.00-3.00pm for those living with dementia and also those who simply want to support a great cause and raise awareness of Falls Prevention for Falls Awareness Week 2018

Dance the Light Fantastic Tea Dance Falls Awareness Event at the Allhallows Community Centre, Fletchertown, CA7 1BD, 3.00-4.30pm. Dancing is hugely beneficial for balance and maintaining muscle tone and preventing falls. You can also swap your old slippers for new slop resistant ones for FREE. 

Falls Prevention Talk offering advice and tips on falls prevention to help you stay on your feet, Distington Club for Young People, DCYP, Distington, 1.00-3.00pm 

Falls Prevention Talk at the Coffee, Cake and the Crack group in the De Lucy Centre, Egremont, 1.00-3.00pm

Cumbria Stop Falls event at Seaton Library, Age UK staff will be available to provide information about falls prevention and our services, you can also get a strength & balance taster session and swap your older slippers for a new pair FREE 10.00am-12.00pm

Friday 28th September:

Falls Prevention Exercise Class where you will be working with a qualified instructor in a friendly environment to reduce the risk of injury and improve balance, functional strengthening, range of movement, confidence and independence every Friday 11.00am-12.00pm, £3.50 (includes a cuppa) at Old Customs House, West Strand, Whitehaven

Information stand about Falls prevention with an Age UK staff member available to answer any questions at Egremont Library 10.00am-3.00pm, Cumbria County Council will also be there offering a slipper swap where you can trade in your old slippers for new pair FREE.

Cumbria Stop Falls event at Castlegate & Derwent Surgery, Isel Road, Cockermouth, Age UK staff will be available to provide information about falls prevention and our services, you can also get a mini health check, strength & balance taster session and swap your older slippers for a new pair FREE 2.00-4.00pm

Monday 2nd October:

Health & Wellbeing MOT drop in from 10.00am-2.00pm at Cleator Moor Library, there will be physiotherapists, occupational therapists, dietetics, memory matters, cardiac rehabilitation team and Age UK staff will be available to answer any questions about falls prevention and our services.

Friday 19th October:

Falls Prevention Class starting at Bradbury House, Wasdale Road, Gosforth with a qualified physiotherapist to help people strengthen muscles, improve balance, increase flexibility and build confidence starting Friday 19th October and will be on the 1st and 3rd Friday of the month 11.00-12.15pm, £3.50 including a cuppa
