Our befriending service provides friendship and support for older people in the community to ensure they do not become lonely or socially isolated.

Age UK West Sussex, Brighton and Hove can help you, or an isolated person you know find a friend who will speak to them on the telephone or come and visit once or twice a week, perhaps for a chat and a cup of tea, or as company on a walk.

A helping hand or a listening ear can make a difference particularly for those that are housebound or have mobility difficulties.

Service availability

We are currently only offering a Telephone Befriending service due to coronavirus restrictions.

These services are available to residents of West Sussex, Brighton & Hove

Who is the service for?

Anyone living in the West Sussex, Brighton and Hove area aged 50+ who feels lonely and unable to leave their home.

Face-to-face befriending

Age UK West Sussex, Brighton & Hove can help you, or an isolated person you know, to find a friend who will come and visit for a chat and a cup of tea, or as company on a walk.

This service is free of charge and all of our volunteers are DBS security checked.

Telephone Befriending

Age UK West Sussex, Brighton & Hove also offers a Telephone Befriending service which is a free telephone friendship service that matches volunteers with older members of the public to have a weekly 20 minutes minimum chat together. Our volunteer telephone befrienders are all DBS security checked and will contact you weekly on a day or days that suit you.
