However delegates or their employers will be charged the market rate for the course for non attendance if less than 7 days notice has been provided. The decision to apply a charge will be at the discretion of Age UK Wiltshire. Details of the required notice period will be explained during the booking process.

Mental Health Awareness

  • How to spot the signs and symptoms of ill mental health. 

  • How to respond to, and communicate with someone experiencing mental health difficulties. (Looking at the mental health continuum and using the ABC Approach.)  

  • How to remain resilient to dealing with mental health issues at work. (Using 5 ways to wellbeing.) 

  • Where to signpost to professional external help.

Mental Health First Aid – ‘Champion’

Mental Health First Aid (MHFA) is a training course which supports people to identify, understand and help someone who may be experiencing a mental health issue.   

  • MHFA won’t teach you to be a therapist, but it will teach you to listen, reassure and respond, even in a crisis – and even potentially stop a crisis from happening.  
  • You’ll learn to recognise warning signs of mental ill health, and develop the skills and confidence to approach and support someone while keeping yourself safe.

Mental Health First Aid – ‘First Aider’ 

Accredited

(2 day)

 The 2 day Mental Health First Aid course teaches people how to identity, understand and help someone who may be experiencing a mental health issue. It also provides people with an insight into their own mental health and effective ways of maintaining their well-being.  

  • MHFA will not teach participants to be a therapist, but it will teach them to listen, reassure and respond, even in a crisis – and even potentially stop a crisis from happening. 

  • Learn how to empower someone to access the support they might need for recovery or successful management of symptoms. This could include self-help books or websites, accessing therapy services through their GP, their school or place of work, online self-referral, support groups, and more. 

  • The adult course is suitable for anyone over the age of 18 and participants can attend for personal or professional reasons.

Mental Health Training for Managers  

Accredited

(3 – 4 hours)  

A half day course which will enable you to:

  • Spot the signs and symptoms of mental health concerns in your team.  

  • Have sensitive conversations around mental health and develop effective communication skills.  

  • Build a supportive and open culture around wellbeing.   

  • Support and manage staff experiencing stress.  

  • Remain resilient in dealing with mental health issues at work for yourself and your staff.  

  • Know when and where to signpost staff to professional external help.

Dementia- Beyond the Basics

Non Accredited

(1 day)

Suitable for people working in the Health and Social Care sectors and anyone who has an interest in dementia. Course covers:

  • The brain: areas affected by dementia and its impact on people with dementia
  • Diagnosis and treatment
  • Our senses 
  • Strategies to deal with confusion, memory loss and disturbing behaviour
  • Communication 
  • Importance of person-centred care

Youth Mental Health First Aid

A new wave of Youth Mental Health First Aid training is being delivered across Wiltshire during 2018 with dates available for booking. Forthcoming dates are listed here.  

This accredited training is being subsidised by Wiltshire Council. 

Youth Mental Health First Aid is an internationally recognised programme designed to promote awareness of psychological and emotional well-being and mental health and to support professionals to recognise and respond to mental health issues in 8-18 year olds.

Key areas covered within this course include:

Emotional, mental, social and psychological well-being
Eating disorders, Self Harm, Suicide
Child, adolescent and family psychosocial development
Depression, Anxiety, Psychosis
Bullying, cyber bullying
Promoting protective factors and good parenting.

The Youth MHFA course will teach you how to:
• Recognise the early signs of a mental health problem in young people
• Feel confident helping a young person experiencing a mental health problem
• Guide a young person towards the right support
