Scammers pretending to be from York Council

We have become aware that some traders are approaching York residents claiming to be working on behalf of the City of York Council and then taking money for work which they do not complete..

City of York Council staff will always have ID on them - if anyone has any concerns they can contact the City of York switchboard on 01904 551550. If anyone thinks that they may have been scammed, they can ring the consumer helpline on 0808 223 1133 or they can visit :

Be scam aware

The number of older people falling victims to scams has nearly doubled in the last 5 years according to BBC research. The number reported to police is thought to be only 5% of the total number of people falling victims to scammers.
