A place to call home

We all deserve a place to call home. A place to feel safe, a place that's right for us. However, unfortunately many people don't feel safe and secure at home. But we're here. Age UK know what to do.

The Age UK Advice Line

Our free, confidential, national phone service is open 8am-7pm, 365 days a year for older people, their families, friends, carers and professionals. Whatever the worry, we’re here to offer support.

The sad reality is that some older people are living in unsuitable homes, with many struggling to pay their bills.

Whether you need expert advice to help you know your rights or your needs have changed and you're considering a move, we're here to help.

Information and advice

Moving into a new home can be stressful at the best of times. As we get older, there are lots of reasons that can make moving – or even the thought of moving – even more difficult. But we're here to help you make the right move.

Adapting your home

For many people, some simple adaptations can help them stay living at home for longer. We can help you work out what could work for you, how to arrange it and figure out what you might have to pay for it.

Care homes

The move into a care home is often an emotional one, and we understand why. But for many people, this move brings a lot of positives. We can help you decide whether it's time to move and how to pay for the care you need.

Home safety and security

We should all feel safe in our own home. But there are lots of reasons why you might not feel that way. We're here to help you feel more confident and secure at home.

Moving house

As we get older our needs can change and there might come a time we need to move somewhere more suitable. Age UK can help you make the right decision for you, at the right time.

Support is just a phone call away

Age UK's Advice Line is open every single day of the year. Our advisers help older people know their housing rights, stay safe in their own home and think through the options if the time comes to move.

We know how personal and emotional these moves can be. Our friendly advisers are experts in having these important conversations, person to person.

Age UK. Know what to do.

Our home was quite cold during the winter months and draughty. With my husband’s arthritis it was very painful for him to sit in the freezing cold. Age UK did a Home Energy Check and the equipment they gave us helped tremendously in keeping the home warmer without using too much energy… I felt a difference in how warm the home became.”

No Place Like Home

Campaigning for you at home

What happens behind closed doors can sometimes make people feel unseen and isolated. We campaign alongside older people to help empower them and to make sure they know that we see them.

'Safe at home' reports and briefings

We publish reports and briefings on a vast range of topics, including helping older people stay safe at home. We’re working to ensure that everyone can live in accessible, warm and energy efficient housing, free from scams and crime.
