Ageing Well in Wales

What is Ageing Well in Wales?

Our Ageing Well programme helps people aged 50 and over to make positive lifestyle choices and stay healthy and active. We do this by supporting our Ageing Well volunteers to share expert information on wellbeing with older people in local communities across Wales and to signpost them to healthy lifestyle options and local support services. Our volunteers also provide direct activities such as Nordic Walking and gentle exercise classes.

What do our Ageing Well volunteers do?

We recruit, train and support local Ageing Well volunteers to provide the following services to older people:

  • Our opens link in new window Ageing Well Community Ambassadors (PDF 61KB) assist at public events like local shows or open days by working on information stands, promoting our work and giving out information on healthy options, activities and opportunities for older people.
  • Our opens link in new window Healthy Lifestyle volunteers (PDF 108KB) provide talks on health and wellbeing to groups of older people, and cover topics like falls prevention, winter wellbeing and healthy eating.  We are expanding the range of topics and training opportunities for our Healthy Lifestyle volunteers to cover.
  • Our opens link in new window Add To Your Life volunteers (PDF 103KB) assist older people who may not have access to a computer, or who may not feel confident using the Internet, to complete the new online Add To Your Life health check.
  • Our opens link in new window Nordic Walking Instructor (PDF 55KB) and opens link in new window Nordic Walking Leader (PDF 54KB) volunteers provide Nordic Walking opportunities including Nordic Walking training and regular walks for older people.
  • Our opens link in new window LIFT (PDF 56KB) (Low Impact Functional Training) volunteers provide exercise classes that are a mix of chair-based exercises and gentle strength and balance exercise and games to maintain mobility and independence, and so improve daily life.

We are currently recruiting Community Ambassadors, Healthy Lifestyle and Add To Your Life volunteers in Rhondda Cynon Taff and Merthyr only.
