Dementia Information Support and Carers Assessment Service

Having the right information and support will help you to understand and plan for the future and continue to enjoy a good quality of life.

Finding out that you or someone you care for has memory problems or has been diagnosed with dementia can be a very anxious time. At this time you may be in need of additional support and reasurrance. We can help you to find out about services locally and nationally, listen to what you have to say, provide you with one to one emotional support, give you access to a range of useful resources, help you to plan for the future, connect you to services that can support you and explain what financial help is available to you or those you care for.

Dementia Carers Assessment Service

If you are caring for someone with memory loss or Dementia, Age UK Oldham can complete a Dementia Carers’ Assessment and, if you are eligible, apply for a Carers’ Personal Budget. This will help you to have some time out from your caring role or to alleviate some of the stresses that can arise when caring for someone.

Caring for someone covers many different aspects, such as helping with their washing, dressing or eating, accompanying the person to regular appointments and offering support when they are anxious. Carers are entitled to an assessment to find out if they are eligible for support to help them to carry on their caring role whilst looking after their own well-being.  Carers can be eligible for support whether or not the adult whom they are caring for is receiving any help or support from social services or if they are in receipt of Carers Allowance.

How can we help you at Age UK Oldham?

The aim of the service is to link with other services both locally and nationally to provide the widest range of information, resources and support to help you or those people you care for to make informed choices.
