Help Around The Home
In co-operation with Social Services, Age UK Portsmouth, by providing help with basic household tasks, (housework, shopping, pension collection) aims to assist older people to continue living independently at home.
Welcome to HELP AROUND THE HOME
Listed below are the home services currently provided by Age UK Portsmouth; in time we intend to extend the list of jobs provided. This is an exciting time and we are looking forward to the challenge of growing the service that we offer you.
Importantly for you, there will no longer be a limit on the number of hours that you can book each week and if you require further information about how we can help you, then please ring our Home Services Co-ordinator, Karen Nicholas direct on 023 9229 1999.
Services we offer you:
· An initial visit to ensure we understand your requirements
· Domestic chores such as Vacuuming, mopping and dusting – priority will be give to hygiene and safety areas, such as bathrooms, toilets and kitchen
· Laundry and ironing
· Bed-making and changing
· Shopping from your nearest supermarket
· Pension collecting from your nearest post office/bank
· Prescription collection from your nearest Pharmacist
· Other reasonable requests for assistance in the home
· Simple practical tasks where health and safety considerations can be satisfied
· Cleaning cupboards and interior windows
· Spring cleaning services
· Specialist one off jobs
· Planned return home from hospital support – house cleaning/preparation, shopping, short term help while recovering
· Signposting to other agencies for different services
Incorporating a handy person service:
· Light Gardening jobs, mowing the grass, weeding and trimming back the hedges
· Light painting and decorating of small areas
· From changing a light bulb to hanging curtains.
New Charges are as follows:
Gardening or Handyperson jobs may be charged at £5.00 - £20.00 per hour. The rate and timescale will be agreed with you prior to work commencing.
For those who would like to donate to our services but benefit as well, there is a £350 per annum membership donation and £10 per hour charge, to help support those seriously deprived older people of Portsmouth.
