Volunteer Kitchen Assistants are essential to creating a warm, welcoming environment where older people and service users can enjoy nutritious meals in comfort. Many of our guests rely on these meals as a vital part of their day, and your support helps ensure everything runs smoothly and safely.
By volunteering in this role, you:
- Help provide a friendly, caring atmosphere during mealtimes.
- Support the kitchen team to prepare and serve meals efficiently.
- Ensure food is handled safely and hygienically Make mealtimes enjoyable and inclusive, reducing loneliness and isolation.
- Enable our service to reach and support more people in the community
Your practical help makes a real difference to the wellbeing and happiness of those we serve.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assist with basic food preparation (e.g. peeling, chopping, plating).
- Serve meals and refreshments to service users.
- Help set up and clear dining areas before and after meals.
- Wash up dishes and kitchen equipment.
- Keep kitchen and food areas clean, tidy, and hygienic.
- Follow food safety and hygiene guidelines at all times.
- Work as part of a friendly, supportive team.
- Provide a warm and welcoming experience for service users during mealtimes.
Skills and Experience:
- Interest in food preparation and kitchen work.
- Basic knowledge of hygiene and food safety (or willingness to learn).
- Ability to follow instructions and work as part of a team.
- Good communication and friendly manner.
- Reliable and punctual.
- Comfortable standing for periods and performing physical tasks.
- Experience in catering, hospitality, or volunteering in similar roles (helpful but not essential).
- Enjoy working in a busy, social environment

Application Process:
You will need to complete an application form and attend an informal interview. If you are successful, you will need to provide references, undergo a DBS check and attend an induction. There will be training provided.
