Information about care homes
If you think you may need to move in to a care home, ask your local social work department to assess your care needs to establish whether you qualify for free personal and nursing care.
For other care home costs, your local council will calculate what you need to pay towards your care home fees depending on the income and savings you have.
You can find detailed guidance in our series of care home leaflets.
If you need information about choosing a care home, contact your local council or see the Care Inspectorate’s website for details of registered care services and inspection reports.
Finding out as much as you can about a care home will help you to make an informed choice about where to live. Download and read our free guides to find out things you should consider when choosing a care home.
These guides are for people who are considering, or have already moved into a care home. We also have a guide specifically for friends and family of people moving into a care home.
