Charity calls for housing strategy support

16 August 2011

Age Scotland will shortly be making publicly available its submission to ‘Age, Home & Community', the Scottish Government's consultation on its Older People's Housing Strategy.
The Charity has actively contributed towards the development of the Strategy for the past year through its Housing Project and as a Strategic Partner of the Government.  While there are many positive aspects to the Strategy, there remain several areas we feel need to be addressed before its publication in December.  These include:

Compelling local authorities to comply with its targets and objectives
Establishing specific targets for Government within the strategy's time span
Providing information and support on housing options across all housing tenures
Ensuring the existing housing stock is fit for purpose
Ensuring all new-build housing meets the Lifetime Homes Standards
A copy of the draft Strategy is available on the Government's website.
We will be asking people to support the Charity's submission and calling on the Government to incorporate our proposals into the final edition of the Strategy.  If you would like to submit your own comments on the Strategy directly to the Government, these can be sent via email to housingsupport@scotland.gsi.gov.uk, or by post to Independent Living Team, Housing Options and Support Division, Scottish Government, Mail Point 21, Area 1-H South, Victoria Quay, Edinburgh, EH6 6QQ.
