Fun Run Boosts Funds

3 October 2011

Charity CEO David Manion and Finance Officers Rosie Berridge and Vanessa Spalding were among the 1300 plus participants who entered the Baxters' River Ness 5K Fun Run last weekend.
They completed the fairly flat course along the River Ness, starting and finishing at the Bught Park in the centre of Inverness, in just over 36 minutes.
David Manion said: "I signed up for this run for several reasons. Firstly, given the fact that 2011 is the International Year of Active Ageing and the Scotland next year will host the 8th World Congress on Active Ageing in Glasgow, it seemed important to lead by example.
"Secondly, not only does this sort of activity raise awareness of Age Scotland, it also raises badly needed funds to enable us to continue our work for Scotland's older people - between the three of us we raised just under a thousand pounds.
"And last but by no means least; it really is an excellent way to test yourself when you're just growing into a sport and it is one of the top three scenic running events in the UK."
The 5K Fun Run, which is open to runners of all ages and abilities including wheelchair entrants, was won by Luke Shaw of Ross-shire in a time of 17 minutes 44 seconds.
