Befrienders Needed

Published on 27 October 2021 09:14 AM

We are looking for new volunteers to help us provide our befriending service. Our befriender volunteers are crucial in helping us ameliorate loneliness and social isolation in the Worcester & Malvern Hills.

What is befriending?

Befriending is the act of visiting an older person, who is socially isolated, in their own home. Befriending provides companionship to older people who best need it and a crucial link to the outside world. It is important that we provide encouragement for clients to participate in local activities and help them develop new relationships.

  • Visit clients regularly at home (at least an hour per fortnight)
  • Participate in tele befriending in-between home visiting
  • Liaise with our befriending coordinator

What do you need?

You do not need any pervious experience for this role, although good communication skills, empathy and patience and a caring and polite attitude is needed. Being able to work as an individual and understanding confidentiality is essential.

Our commitment to you

We will provide you with: relevant induction & training, ongoing support, reimburse reasonable travel costs and invite you to our group events. Full training for this role with be provided.

Could you be like Esther (above) and selflessly make regular care calls and/or visit a lonely older person?

Apply to volunteer with us today and help us change a life.
