Age International, Age UK’s international charity, is the only charity in the UK dedicated to the needs and rights of older people in developing countries.
Age International's work in 2015/16
Age International delivers long-term development programmes in over 30 developing countries, as well as influencing and advocating on behalf of older people to challenge age discrimination and help them claim their rights.
Working as a member of the Disasters Emergency Committee (DEC), they also support age-friendly emergency relief in countries devastated by disasters and conflict.
Emergency relief
Age International helps older people to recover from humanitarian emergencies in developing countries.
After the devastating earthquake in Nepal in April 2015, Age International launched an emergency appeal and participated in the DEC appeal. They provided shelter, cash grants, healthcare and eyecare, as well as training in disaster risk reduction and livelihoods recovery.

Delivering essential services
Age International helps to ensure that essential health and care services are provided to older people in low and middle income countries.
In 2015/16, they trained nearly 8,000 government and agency staff in 25 countries to deliver better health, social protection and humanitarian relief. They delivered health care to older people in 28 countries, including Ethiopia, Mozambique, Tanzania, Zimbabwe and Sri Lanka and provided eye care services, including cataract screening and operations, in six countries.

Campaigning for the rights of older people
Age International has worked in the UK and internationally to build support for a UN convention on the rights of older people. In the UK, Age UK and Age International have built a network of like-minded organisations that informs parliamentarians about this emerging agenda.
