Digital Den volunteer

Volunteer role description

As a Digital Den Volunteer, you will support those aged 50 plus (who may drop in or book support at prearranged times with you) at our Ageing Well Centre, in our new Digital Den. This will mostly be with those who are less familiar with technology, to use their smartphones, tablets or laptops with confidence.  

What you'll be doing

• Helping people build digital confidence using smartphones, tablets or computers, based on their needs either during a drop-in session or prebooked session 
• Providing patient friendly support to meet the client’s skill level, to ensure they are comfortable with technology over time 
• Emphasising the importance of digital safety and security; importance of strong passwords, identifying scams and protecting personal information 
• Respecting the privacy of the clients you are supporting
• Working as part of a team with other Age UK Bolton staff and volunteers 

What we're looking for

• A genuine interest in helping others 
• Strong tech skills including using smart phones, tablets and computers for basic online tasks 
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills 
• Open-mindedness, avoiding judgement and stereotyping 
• Enthusiasm for working with older people 
• Ability to work as part of a team 
• Willingness to attend training and other events and to be able to commit to regular volunteering hours 
• Willingness to undergo an Enhanced DBS check if required (criminal records check) 

Time requirements

We are ideally looking for a small group of 2-3 people to commit to volunteering for a morning or afternoon per week. 

As this is a pilot project, when we find a suitable volunteer, we will promote the opportunity and set up sessions to meet demand. We are hoping to find someone who is able to be flexible while the programme gets underway. 

Days: Monday afternoon, Tuesday morning/afternoon, Wednesday morning/afternoon, Thursday morning and Friday morning – to be agreed.
