Age UK County Durham really appreciated your contribution to our Big Knit campaign last year—we raised £1730.25.
Our Big Knit is on its way again, Age UK and innocent are teaming up again for the 13th year of their Big Knit partnership.
This time the knitting phase is going to be a bit different – Age UK nationally has been tasked to put little woolly hats on 2 million smoothie bottles, which will be sold by retailers nationwide in November 2017.
Age UK County Durham has agreed to knit 6921 hats which we will send to Age UK by 31 January 2017.  Then we will continue knitting until summer 2017 to gather the same number of hats again. Then all the hats will go on sale in November 2017.
So twice as many hats, but nearly twice as long to knit them!
Knitters of all ages can get involved by knitting (or crocheting) lots of tiny hats for the top of innocent smoothie bottles.  For every be-hatted bottle sold, 25p will be received by Age UK County Durham.  This will help us to keep older people warm and well in the winter months.  We really need your help to create lots of lovely hats for us.
Your hats need to be returned to us at Age UK County Durham.

We are delighted to say that we have reached our target of13,842 hats, which is fantastic.

We needed to collect the hats by the end of July 2017 as part of Age UK and Innocent's smoothie hat campaign.

Each hat will raise 25p for us and the money raised will help us help keep older people warm and well in the winter months.

All the hats will  be used to decorate the Innocent Smoothie bottles and go on sale in November 2017.

We could not have achieved this target without the support and dedication those who knitted for us.  Thank you.

If you stil have hats to return to use, please RETURN ALL YOUR HATS TO US at Age UK County Durham.

How the Big Knit helps older people

Each winter, one older person dies needlessly every seven minutes because of the cold. With over a decade of support from knitters up and down the country, The Big Knit has raised vital funds to support local and national winter projects to help older people keep warm and well in winter through befriending visits, emergency cold weather support, warm meals and other vital services.

The Big Knit is a great way to bring people and communities together. Knitting groups have been held up and down the country for people to get involved, share patterns and have a cup of tea or two!

‘The Big Knit campaign couldn't happen without the support of thousands of amazing people across the UK who take part and knit woolly hats to adorn innocent smoothies each year.’ (Douglas Lamont, CEO at innocent)
