More than 3,500 people around the country took to the streets and parks on Sunday 10 April 2011 for the BAPS Charities Annual Challenge to raise funds for Age UK and other worthy causes.

In London, runners, walkers and cyclists of all ages and backgrounds gathered together in glorious Spring sunshine with Mayor of Brent, Cllr Harbhajan Singh, Pujya Yogvivek Swami, Head Priest, and Paul Farthing, Director of Fundraising at Age UK for an exhilarating 10k challenge starting from BAPS Shri Swaminarayan Mandir in Neasden.

Pujya Yogvivek Swami, Head Priest, Ambalal Patel (oldest walker, aged 97), Jitu Patel, Chairman of Trustees and Paul Farthing, Fundraising Director at Age UK, untie the string to flag off the walkers.

Paul Farthing, Fundraising Director at Age UK said: 'We are delighted to have been selected as the partner charity for the BAPS Charities Annual Challenge, and this year’s event promises to be the biggest and best yet! Ensuring that older people can make the most of life lies at the heart of Age UK’s work, and it’s wonderful to see so many people today going the extra mile to support people in later life.'

Kamlesh Patel, lead BAPS Charities volunteer added, 'We are thrilled to be working with Age UK. Older people are such a valuable part of our society but are sadly so often forgotten and neglected. We hope that this has helped raise some awareness and vital funds for them.'

Thousands of people are planning to take to the streets supporting 10k events cross the country as part of the BAPS Charities Annual Challenge on the 17 April, and we wish them the best of luck in their fundraising.
