How your donation can help

Woman at front door

With your donation, we can help thousands of older people, including those living within the UK and those residing in other countries. The causes of isolation and poverty are complex, but the solutions can be so simple.

Older people end up stuck in their homes for lots of reasons. Poverty, immobility, incontinence and loss of confidence can all play their part, and 1 in 10 older people feel trapped.

People like Ellie. She has difficulty getting around. It takes her 15 minutes to get from her bed to her sofa. She jokes that this has its upside: it’s 15 minutes less time to fill.

Ellie is one of nearly 200,000 older people who do not receive the help they need to get out of the house. Exactly the kind of person we want to help.

We’re doing simple things every day to help people like Ellie

  • We call people to make sure they’re OK. This is especially important when they’re just out of hospital, or if someone they love has died.
  • We give grants to community groups to reach more older people. This helps pay for door to door transport, food and entertainment.
  • We recognise older men don’t necessarily want to visit day centres. So we are trialling workshops where they can get together and make things.
  • We help people get access to benefits. An estimated £4 billion goes unclaimed each year, and we are helping people get their full entitlement.
  • We help community groups buy urgently needed vehicles. This helps people who would otherwise be housebound.
  • We are one of the only charities funding research into incontinence. We are striving to understand the causes, and find the cures.
