East Africa is suffering its worst drought for six decades, with millions of people facing severe shortages of food. The tragedy is hitting older people particularly hard, especially those unable to travel to refugee camps for help.
Age UK and our sister organisation, HelpAge International are providing much needed emergency relief to 6,400 households in the Borana region in Ethiopia.
We aim to distribute food, water and livestock to older people as well as water, animal feed and veterinary care for livestock which are vital for people’s livelihoods and food supply.
£10 will provide two older people with clean water to help them survive the crisis.
£20 will provide an older person with essential food for one month so he or she can survive the crisis.
£45 will buy three goats for older people whose goats may have died as a result of the drought.
