In Ethiopia, thousands of grandmothers and grandfathers must work until the day they die. They are scraping by
on around 50p a day. This small amount often has to stretch to support other family members. Imagine the difference just another 50p could make? It could ease their hunger. Quench their thirst. Treat their illness. And give them hope.

These hardworking grandparents are taking care of everyone around them, but who is looking after them in their old age?

It doesn’t take much to sponsor a grandparent. They are already doing all the hard work. Farming and cooking. Lifting and carrying. Spinning and weaving.

How it works

You can sponsor a grandparent for 50p a day

You can sponsor a grandparent in one of the world’s poorest countries for £15 a month. That’s just 50p a day to provide desperately-needed food, medical care and clothing.
Your money will start making a difference right away. We are already working hard to transform lives and, with your support, we’ll be able to do even more.
We will send you a pack introducing you to your grandparent. You can get to know them, see what their life is like, and see how you will be helping. You’ll quickly see how much your money is transforming their life and the lives of other grandparents just like them.

Why it works

Sponsorship helped Getachew and Shibire

This is Getachew and his wife Shibire. They lived in a house with no roof, no floor, and no door. In the rainy season they would sleep with plastic bags on their heads. And in the morning, clear the mud as best they could.

Thanks to a housing renovation project, they now have a roof. And a floor. They invite friends to sit on it and drink coffee. And when they go to bed, they lock their new door and feel safe.

In Getachew’s words, "We used to sleep like animals. Now we feel human again".
