Campaign to reduce winter deaths

Every winter, tens of thousands of older people in this country become seriously ill or even die as a result of the cold.

We need your help: winter is over, but we are still determined to keep campaigning for warmer homes and lower bills.

Exposure to cold is what causes most health problems in winter – and our homes are the places where we spend most time. What a difference it would make if all our homes were warm and well insulated.

It doesn't have to be like this: with better insulated homes and greater understanding of the need to keep warm, other much colder countries have lower death rates. Age UK is campaigning to prevent this costly and preventable tragedy.

What can we do?

We've joined with other charities and businesses in the Energy Bill Revolution campaign alliance. Together we're calling on the Government to use the money it is getting from our carbon taxes to make our homes super energy-efficient.

Tackling energy prices is important – but the most cost–effective, long-term solution is to invest in energy efficiency – things like loft insulation, cavity wall insulation, solid wall insulation and draught proofing.

Energy-efficient homes use less fuel because it's not being wasted. Investing in home energy efficiency would also lower energy bills, reduce carbon emissions and create UK jobs.
