A coffee morning organised by Age UK North Yorkshire at their offices on the High street in Northallerton was attended by Rishi Sunak, Member of Parliament for Richmond (Yorks).   Mr Sunak used the opportunity to talk to some of the residents of Hambleton who are either volunteers or use the essential services that the charity provides.

Rishi said “I very much enjoyed attending what was a very packed coffee morning – the cakes in particular were excellent! The volunteers and attendees had lots of interesting things to tell me. Perhaps not surprisingly Europe was a prominent topic.

“Age UK North Yorkshire does a great job and I was most interested to hear about its work and services.”

Age UK North Yorkshire holds regular coffee mornings where older people can get together and socialize over a cuppa. We provide a wide range of practical help and support, many of which the general public may want to be aware of, such as; general information and advice on almost anything, a range of social activities, befriending and ageing well exercise classes and walking for health, as well as supporting the Hambleton Over Fifties Forum. Most of our work is only made possible through the generosity of members of the public, as well as other grant giving organisations.

Hazel Cambers, who is a trustee of Age UK North Yorkshire said, “We were delighted to welcome Mr. Sunak to our Northallerton office to meet some of the older people from the area who are being supported to continue enjoying later life. Essential to the work of our charity is to ensure that older people who have made a lot of contribution to society, are not ignored or neglected in their later life, instead continue to thrive with some support.”

Members of the public are welcome to look on our website for more information on the range of services we offer, and could either email, telephone or just pop into our office on 33 High Street, Northallerton between 10:00am and 1:00pm (Monday to Thursday). Everyone is guaranteed a friendly face that would be willing to help.
