The following organisations can give you information and advice on your right not to be discriminated against at work.

  • opens link in new window ACAS (Advisory‚ Conciliation and Arbitration Service) provides guidance on the regulations and on employment rights in general. Call their helpline on 08457 47 47 47 (8am-8pm Monday to Friday)

  • opens link in new window Advicenow has a wide range of accessible information‚ including information on age discrimination and a step-by-step guide to using your work's grievance procedure to deal with discrimination at work.

  • Age UK Advice Line has a wide range of information for people in later life – call free on 0800 169 6565.

  • Scottish Helpline for Older People – Age Scotland’s helpline – call 0845 125 9732.

  • opens link in new window The Age and Employment Network (TAEN) is a campaigning organisation with a network of 250 member organisations working for better opportunities for older people to continue working and learning. Call 020 7843 1590.

  • The opens link in new window Employers’ Forum on Age offers a wealth of invaluable information aimed at employers.

For free advice and representation

  • The opens link in new window Equality and Human Rights Commission is responsible for promoting and enforcing age discrimination legislation. They can take legal action on behalf of individuals. Call 0845 604 6610 (England)‚ 0845 604 8810 (Wales)‚ or 0845 604 5510 (Scotland).

  • Your local Age UK or Age Concern can give you information about the law and will help you find advice in your area To find your local branch call 0800 169 6565.

  • opens link in new window Citizens Advice Bureau provides free, independent and confidential advice on legal problems.

  • opens link in new window Law Centres provide free legal advice.

  • opens link in new window Independent advice agency - provides free legal advice.

  • opens link in new window Community Legal Advice can give free advice over the phone if you qualify for legal aid and can direct you to local advice agencies and solicitors. Call 0845 345 4 345 If you’re a member of a Trade Union‚ you’ll be able to contact your representative for advice.

  • opens link in new window The Law Society will help you find a solicitor. Some solicitors offer a free initial meeting to discuss whether you have a potential claim.

If you have Legal Expense Insurance‚ perhaps as part of a household insurance policy‚ you should check this to see if it will cover a solicitor’s costs for a tribunal claim.
