Walking, Talking and Festive Fun! Herefordshire Community Foundation generously fund ‘Ledbury Walk and Talk’ group's festive Christmas Party

As we close out another fantastic year at Age UK Herefordshire and Worcestershire, our Ledbury Walk and Talk group were fortunate enough to have their Christmas party and meal funded by The Herefordshire Community Foundation. The funds were kindly provided thanks to The Bulmer Gilmour Fund, which helped cover the costs of the meal at Ledbury Rugby Football Club.  

Ledbury Rugby Football Club have kindly allowed us to use their clubhouse throughout the year, allowing our Ledbury walking group to have a space to come together for their walk, a coffee and all manner of different events. Earlier this year the group held a summer picnic at the club, while the club has also often been used as a refuge during adverse weather at times throughout the year. Some of the funding received is actually set to go towards purchasing some board games and indoor activities that the group can partake in on bad weather days, ensuring the group can always meet regardless of the weather. 

The group has continued to grow this year, which has only served to increase the community element present within the group. One of the main benefits of the group is that it offers a medium for those who may feel isolated or lonely to come together in a social environment and connect. Equally important is the physical exercise that the walks provide and this goes towards helping those who come to stay active, which has a host of mental and physical health benefits.  

Our Social Inclusion and Wellbeing Manager Caroline Savage has said: 

“We’re so grateful to the Bulmer Gilmour Funding and the Herefordshire Community Foundation for enabling the group to enjoy a lovely lunch together. The group have grown considerably over the last year and built some lasting friendships which is exactly what we wanted to achieve and hopefully build upon next year.” 

Once again, everybody here would like to say a big thank you to The Herefordshire Community Foundation and Ledbury Rugby Football Club for being so supportive of our Ledbury Walk and Talk group and we hope to see the group continue to grow next year!
