We are looking for a volunteer for 3 hours a week on a Thursday 1-4pm to support our Dementia Activities Group in Worcester. The Dementia Activity group provided Stimulating group activities, such as quizzes, Arts and Crafts, games, and museum chats to name but a few, for people living with Mild to Moderate Dementia.

You will be part of a team that support the Dementia group coordinator by helping to set out the room prior to the group (including moving tables/chairs), welcoming and talking to people attending the group, helping to run and support session activities, making and distributing refreshments and helping to clear away after the session.

The groups take place in community settings and are ran for 2 hours at a time. Volunteers are needed for about 20 minutes before and after the group to allow for setting up and clearing away.

This role will suit you if you…

  • Know about, or are willing to learn about, dementia and its impact on people
  • Are committed to inclusion and treating people from all backgrounds with dignity
  • Enjoy meeting new people, demonstrating empathy and compassion
  • Have good verbal communication skills especially face to face
  • Recognise the importance of confidentiality and can show this in practice
  • Are comfortable volunteering as part of a team of volunteers and employees
  • Are prepared to complete any necessary initial and ongoing learning and attend future support meetings.

The impact you’ll make…

You will be part of a team providing support to the group co-ordinator to enable people living with dementia to engage with and socialise with other people in a welcoming, relaxed and non-judgmental environment. Your involvement aims to help people feel less isolated and to meet other people who understand some of what they are going through, helping towards their feeling of wellbeing.

As a volunteer at Age UK Herefordshire & Worcestershire you will receive a full induction, including our in-house certificated Bitesize training, and a DBS check where necessary.
