Beat The Cold
Beat the Cold are a Staffordshire based charity, whose aim is to reduce fuel poverty, and cold related ill health. They are a trusted partner within Stoke on Trent, Staffordshire, and surrounding areas, and have over 20 years’ experience in energy advice and support.
Beat the Cold is committed to helping those who live in, or are at risk of fuel poverty, or whose health could be detrimentally affected by a cold home. They pride themselves in going the extra mile to support every service user, regardless of the complexity of their situation.
A freephone telephone advice line service is available during office opening hours of 09:00 - 17:00 Monday to Thursday, and 09:00 - 16:30 on a Friday. We will address the core issues of:
- Reduction of outgoings on fuel
- Behavioural change
- Any concern regarding energy / energy supplier / energy debt
- Signpost and refer to partner agencies to maximize the outcomes
- Assisting clients to manage their energy accounts properly and appropriate to their needs.
- Income maximisation - Assisting clients to complete benefit entitlement checks to ensure that they are claiming everything they can.
- Support clients to access and apply for Warm Home Discount / Priority Services Register / Winter Fuel / Cold Weather Payments / Fuel and foodbank vouchers (when available)
- Access Free Capital Measures (Insulation / ASHP / Solar PV) for the property via ECO and Local Authority schemes for eligible applicants.
How do Beat the Cold offer this advice?

For enquiries that would be best resolved in the home, Beat the Cold will provide a personalised home visiting service. The home visits will be carried out in line with best practice identified by NICE, will be unscripted, and client led. They will cover the salient points of the telephone assessment in greater detail and will involve acting as an advocate for the client in anything energy related.
