We can help with small practical tasks in your home, to keep you safe and secure
The Age UK Berkshire Handyperson service costs £20 per hour (plus materials), but in some of areas of Berkshire and in some circumstances, your local Council will pay for our Handyperson service on your behalf. Please ask Age UK Berkshire about our charges and about the subsidised or free service.
Our services in Reading, Wokingham, Bracknell Forest and West Berkshire are partly-subsidised by the the Council in each of those areas. Work on safety & security issues or that help a quick return from hospital are currently provided free of charge; other work is charged at £20 per hour, plus the cost of materials.
Elsewhere in Berkshire, we are not subsidised and a charge of £20 per hour is made for all the types of work we can do (see below for examples), plus the cost of materials.
If you find you genuinely cannot pay those rates, please discuss with us (0118 959 4242 firstname.lastname@example.org) but we are unable to offer this service free of charge.
We welcome referrals and calls from older people, families and carers for this service.
Referrals can be made by social workers, occupational therapists, GPs, hospital discharge staff, etc., for the free service in West Berkshire, Reading, Wokingham and Bracknell Forest.
We also offer a comprehensive domestic cleaning and help service: Home Help Plus.
Please call us 0118 959 4242 if you're not sure what we can offer you in your area or what it may cost.
