Job description

Age UK Bolton delivers friendly, supportive Strength and Balance programmes that help older people stay steady, confident and independent for longer. Our sessions make a real difference—helping to prevent falls, reduce hospital visits, and improve everyday quality of life for older people across Bolton.

We are looking for self-employed Exercise Instructors, Activity Coordinators, Wellbeing Facilitators, Community Activity Workers, Rehabilitation Assistants, and others with relevant experience to deliver regular, weekly sessions in community venues and care home settings.

This includes leading engaging, enjoyable activities in care homes and community spaces, tailored to meet a wide range of needs—including older people living with dementia or reduced mobility.

This is a practical, delivery-focused role suited to people who enjoy working with older adults and creating positive, inclusive environments. You don’t need a clinical background—what matters most is your ability to motivate, adapt activities, and support people at different ability levels to take part safely and confidently.

You’ll deliver structured, evidence-based programmes, with timetables, venues and referrals coordinated by Age UK Bolton’s Strength and Balance Team. There may also be opportunities to support more specialist sessions alongside experienced staff.

As a self-employed instructor or facilitator, you’ll work independently while being part of a supportive and experienced team. You’ll be encouraged to build strong relationships with participants, adapt sessions to individual needs, and create a welcoming, enjoyable atmosphere.

We also provide training and upskilling opportunities to help you build confidence and develop your skills in delivering strength and balance sessions, including working with older people and those with additional needs.

Salary: £25-£30 per hour, depending on experience and qualifications.

Hours: Regular weekly classes already established.

Contract: Self-employed/freelance

Responsible to: Strength and Balance Service Co-ordinator/Head of Health and Enterprises
