The fit as a fiddle programme was divided into nine regions. Each region co-ordinated a portfolio of projects that promotde physical activity‚ healthy eating and well-being amongst older people.

Each fit as a fiddle regional programme was co-ordinated by a regional co-ordinator‚ supported by a regional chair.


The Eastern region ran eight varied projects that promoted physical activity‚ healthy eating and well-being for older people. These included Dancing for Fun; Eating Well‚ Feeling Well; and cookery and tea dances.

East Midlands

East Midlands fit as fiddle ran physical activity and healthy eating projects‚ focusing on older people in socially isolated rural and urban areas‚ including activities such as walking groups‚ cooking sessions‚ yoga‚ and seated exercise.

From football to poetry and from gardening to Nordic walking, fit as a fiddle in London pioneered new ways of working with older people to support sustainable lifestyle changes that lead to improved health, reduced isolation and greater independence.

North East

fit as a fiddle North East's 'Fifty Ways to Health' programme trained volunteers as Senior Health Mentors‚ who organised physical activity and well-being sessions for older people‚ including yoga‚ tai chi‚ bowls and balance sessions.

North West

The North West programme supported a wide variety of local partnership work with older people‚ including projects focusing on Black and Minority Ethnic communities‚ care homes‚ rural communities‚ older men‚ inter-generational work‚ and falls prevention.

South East

The South East region's projects were delivered through three Well-being hubs‚ assisted by two centres of excellence. Projects included healthy walks‚ tai chi‚ chair-based activities and healthy cooking sessions.

South West

The 'Get Up‚ Get Out‚ Get Active' programme encouraged older people into physical activity through six new programmes: Elder Ambassador Scheme‚ Walking for Health‚ Fitness for Over-70s‚ Mobility and Activity‚ Fit as a Fish‚ and At My Age.

West Midlands

West Midlands' fit as a fiddle promoted volunteering‚ activity and partnership working through 'Greengagers'‚ promoting gardening projects‚ and 'Prescription for Health'‚ strengthening activity referral schemes via GPs and health professionals.

Yorkshire & Humberside

'Good For Your Health' was a region-wide project‚ training volunteers to be mentors who support physical activity and well-being among older people. The project also organised health and well-being workshops and activities for people aged over 50.
