Fifty Ways to Health in the North East region is an exciting and innovative programme of activities and events to encourage older people and their carers to be physically active and improve their diets in a wide.

The programme offers tailored exercise and activity programmes in the community reflecting the preferences of older people. This includes:

  • mixed exercise of moderate intensity (for example‚ dancing‚ walking‚ and swimming)
  • strength and resistance exercise‚ especially for the frail (for example‚ chair-based exercises)
  • toning and stretching

Fruit smoothie-making and cooking events provide older people with the opportunity to try new ways to eat a good diet and feel the improvement this makes to their physical and mental well-being.
