Our ability to live healthy, active and independent lives is often shaped by our home environment. All older people should have access to safe and secure housing options that suit their needs and aspirations.

Too many homes are inaccessible, cold, damp or in a poor state of repair. To tackle these problems we need to help the majority of older people (90 per cent) who live in ordinary housing. But we also need good quality retirement housing with the right levels of care and support.

We need warmth and security, with affordable utilities and services that are geared up to deal with problems and home emergencies. All of us should feel safe from scams and crime, especially those that target people at home.

Age UK is working in partnership with the Housing and Ageing Alliance (HAA) and the Home Adaptations Consortium to improve older people’s housing.
