Dementia support volunteer
As a dementia support volunteer you could help people with dementia and memory difficulties, their families, carers and friends.
What do dementia support volunteers do?
Our dementia support groups provide emotional support and information in a safe and welcoming environment. As a volunteer helper your duties would include helping to serve refreshments to the members at the start and end of the meeting and assisting members who have dementia and their carers in any activities planned for the group.
You would need to be empathetic to the person with dementia, caring, and have a sense of humour. Experience of dementia would be helpful but not essential.
Dementia support group helper
We currently require a helper at our Monkmoor group in Shrewsbury, which meets fortnightly on a Thursday morning.
What you will get out of it
- It's a great way to make a real difference to someone's life
- You'll be giving something to your community
- You get to be part of Age UK Shropshire Telford & Wrekin's volunteer team
- Volunteers tell us they find volunteering really rewarding
What is expected of me?
Our dementia support groups take place fortnightly throughout Shropshire and Telford & Wrekin. The role usually involves a commitment of a few hours every fortnight, over a long period of time.
Volunteers will also need to attend a short training session and provide references. This role will require a Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check, which we will organise for you.
