Living well volunteer

As a living well volunteer you could help to provide a great activity for a lonely older person.
What do living well volunteers do?
Age UK Shropshire Telford & Wrekin offers a wide variety of activities for older people, from dance classes to social groups, arts and crafts sessions to food and friendship groups. Our living well activities help older people to keep active and stay socially connected.
We have a variety of roles available:
Friendship group leader
This group meets fortnightly on a Wednesday afternoon at Bridgnorth Fire Station. The group leader is expected to host the group, welcoming members as they arrive, promoting a friendly atmosphere and assisting new attendees to settle in.
Friendship group helper
This group meets fortnightly on a Wednesday afternoon at Bridgnorth Fire Station. Volunteers will help to serve light refreshments, establish relationships within the group and interact with the group members to provide a welcoming, friendly atmosphere.
Curling group helper
This group runs fortnightly on a Monday morning at Horsehay Village Hall. We are looking for someone who can set up the room prior to the session, meet and greet the members as they arrive, and support them during the activity.
What you will get out of it
- It's a great way to make a real difference to someone's life
- You'll be giving something to your community
- You get to be part of Age UK Shropshire Telford & Wrekin's volunteer team
- Volunteers tell us they find volunteering really rewarding
What is expected of me?
Our living well activities take place regularly throughout south Shropshire and Telford & Wrekin. Each role is different but usually involves a commitment of a few hours per week, over a long period of time. Volunteers will also need to attend a short training session and provide references. All the roles will require a Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check, which we will organise for you.
