10th October 2016
Age UK Suffolk is calling on nimble-fingered knitters to get creative and knit little hats for innocent’s Big Knit and help older people keep warm and well in winter.
Now in its 13th year, The Big Knit returns and we are once again asking budding knitters across Suffolk to knit miniature woolly hats to adorn innocent smoothie bottles, which will be sold in stores nationwide from November 2017. For each be-hatted smoothie sold, innocent will donate 25p to help Age UK Suffolk fund local winter projects.
Last year our knitters managed to knit 11,500 woolly hats helping to raise £2,875!
This year we have two targets, to help us knit as many hats as possible, and enabling our knitters to continue supporting us through to July 2017.
* We are proud to announce that we met our first target and sent off 9770 hats to Age UK at the end of January! Huge thanks to all of our knitters*
We have a second target of knitting 9770 hats by 31st July.
If you'd like to help us reach our target and raise £4885 please see the knitting patterns in the link below or phone Jenny in the fundraising department on 01473 298688 for more information. We can also print off and send out enlarged patterns if required.
If you would like to create your own designs, that would be great too!
You can drop the hats off to one of our Age UK Suffolk shops or call the fundraising team to arrange for one of our volunteers to pick them up.
Don't forget to take a photo of your creations, tag us in @AgeUKSuffolk #TheBigKnit and we will share them .
Our special thanks to "Slimming 4 Woman"
"Slimming 4 Women" is a community slimming group in Lowestoft which helps charities as well as losing weight and getting healthy. They decided to get involved with our Big Knit campaign.“Knitting these hats is ideal for us because it is something useful to do instead of picking at snacks during the evenings” said group leader Margo Upstone.
They have now sent us 204 hats.Well done everyone!
