Help the Elderly 2023

Published on 27 November 2023 04:09 PM

Age UK Bradford District are launching their Help the Elderly Campaign on Monday 27th November at the Airedale Shopping Centre in Keighley to raise awareness and support over the coming winter months.

Once again, the cost-of-living crisis is having a significant impact on older people who have a limited income, often leaving people with the choice of heating their home or eating this winter. Sadly, some people’s budgets simply cannot stretch to cover both.

Mark Rounding, CEO of Age UK Bradford District, said: "Cold weather can have serious health consequences for older people and those with heart or lung conditions can be particularly at risk. The advice is to maintain indoor temperatures of at least 18°C, particularly for those who are less mobile or have a long-term illness. Our information and advice team can connect older people with benefits they may be entitled to, enabling them to keep warm and keep food on the table. Due to the rising cost of living, we have seen a huge increase in the need for our services to support older people to ensure that they can live a comfortable life."

The charity is hoping that people who are able to will make a donation to help them to support more older people through another difficult winter. Your help will ensure older people can access information and advice, enabling Age UK Bradford District to provide more one to one appointments so older people don't have to choose between eating or keeping warm.

You can donate online or by texting the word TODAY to 70480 donates £5, 70460 donates £10, 70490 donates £20.
