Shedder Barrie’s Words to Encourage Others

Published on 03 May 2019 07:39 PM

On behalf of his fellow ‘Shedders’ Barrie, who joined Bromsgrove Men In Sheds just over five months ago, has been talking about his experiences of ‘The Shed’ to encourage others to come along and to ‘Get Involved’.

This week has seen the publication of a new report Older Men At The Margins (by the University Of Bristol supported by Age UK), which has been looking at how men and women’s experiences of loneliness differ in later life.  For the men interviewed for this report finding groups where they could be themselves, engage in activities they found interesting and, crucially, where they could feel a sense of renewed purpose by contributing to the running and organisation of the group was key – this is exactly what Bromsgrove Men in Sheds is all about

The Shed has had a big impact on Barrie – those closest to him have commented how, over the last few months, Barrie has ‘become the person that he used to be’.

Locally Bromsgrove Men in Sheds have done so much over the last 12 months to raise awareness of loneliness and isolation and the difference that schemes like Men in Sheds makes.  However, in order continue and grow the group is seeking more ‘Shedders’ and more ‘Supporters’,

Anyone interested in joining Bromsgrove Men In Sheds can, just like Barrie, pop long to the Shed (Mondays to Thursdays, 10am – 2pm) and have a cup of tea and a chat with the guys to find out more.

Age UK BRWF has also launched its 2019 Shed Share Scheme – to find out more about sponsoring and/ or supporting Bromsgrove Men In Sheds please contact Jo Hughes at Age UK BRWF on 01527 568855 / Jo.Hughes@ageukbrwf.org,uk
