OVERVIEW
Age UK North Yorkshire Coast & Moors is an independent charity but part of the Age UK family. That means we are a local charity for local people and donations stay where they are needed, on the North Yorkshire coast and the former districts of Scarborough and Ryedale in North Yorkshire.
We work with other Age UKs and our national charity to increase our impact on the over 50s, but we provide services that are exactly what our residents need here. A perfect blend of national and local services working together.
VISION, MISSION, VALUES AND OBJECTIVES
Locally we have a vision of communities where older people are valued, listened to, and can access services which means they can lead a more fulfilling older age.
Our mission is to achieve that vision in three ways:
- By being an advocate and voice of the needs and views of older people, arguing for societal change locally, nationally and internationally.
- By building our services with older people at their core. We want our services, and those of our partners, to be informed by our older population to ensure they provide services of the highest quality and relevance.
- Providing more services that are relevant to the needs of older people, filling gaps where there is insufficient quality or provision.
Our Values continue to be an organisation that is respectful, inclusive and empowering, aiming to provide the highest quality services to people.
WHAT ARE YOUR KEY RESPONSIBILITIES?
Reporting to the CEO, the Fundraiser will lead our work to grow income from charitable trusts, foundations and grant funders. The main focus of the role is to research funding opportunities and write strong, well-evidenced bids and applications that bring in restricted and unrestricted income for our services.
Alongside this, and to a lesser extent, the role supports the wider fundraising work of the charity, including community fundraising, corporate support, events and individual giving. It works with colleagues across the charity and with external partners to build a coordinated approach to income generation.
As a valued member of the team, this role will support Age UK NYCM in fulfilling its mission and achieving our strategic priority of income generation and sustainability, helping us provide more services for older people across the Scarborough and Ryedale districts. The responsibilities of the role will include, but are not limited to:
Trusts, Foundations and Bid Development
- Research and identify charitable trusts, foundations, statutory and National Lottery funders whose priorities match our services and plans.
- Write and submit tailored, well-evidenced funding applications, from small grants through to larger and multi-year bids.
- Build a pipeline of funding prospects and manage applications from first approach through to submission, decision and reporting.
- Work with service and finance colleagues to develop project plans, budgets and outcomes that funders can rely on.
- Prepare clear and accurate reports for funders that show the difference their funding has made against agreed outcomes.
- Gather and keep up to date a store of facts, figures, outcomes and case studies to use as evidence in bids and reports.
- Build and maintain good working relationships with funders, providing strong stewardship to encourage repeat and longer-term support.
- Keep accurate records of applications, deadlines, income and funder contact on our database.
- Keep up to date with new funders, funding trends and good practice in trusts and statutory fundraising.
Wider Fundraising and Income Generation
- Support the planning and delivery of community, corporate, events and individual giving activity alongside the wider team.
- Help to grow supporter-led community fundraising, including regular givers to our charity.
- Support outreach to businesses, schools, community groups and clubs to promote fundraising opportunities and back their efforts.
- Be visible at fundraising and awareness events, helping with planning and delivery, including some evening and weekend activity.
- Support our campaigning and influencing work, including events that gather the views of older people and those around them.
Communications and Supporter Care
- Help to create content for email, website and social media that supports donations, event sign-ups and awareness of our services.
- Act as a first point of contact for funders, donors and fundraisers, giving a warm and professional response.
- Follow up with supporters in good time so that they feel valued and stay connected to our work.
Administration and Data
- Make sure all communications are in line with GDPR and data protection laws.
- Work with the Finance Manager on Gift Aid and online giving administration.
- Provide regular income generation and bid reports for internal and external stakeholders.
- Support our work with the wider Age UK network, sharing and learning from best practice, and represent Age UK NYCM in the national Age UK fundraising group.
The general responsibilities of the role are:
- To undertake any other duties commensurate with the level of the role.
- Embrace diversity and share in our commitment to equality of opportunity and to eliminating discrimination.
- Share our commitment to safeguarding.
- Use the charity’s resources efficiently and effectively to ensure that our financial resources are demonstrably used for the benefit of our service users.
