Who we are

Age UK Scarborough & District is a local independent charity, serving the needs of local older people across the whole of the Borough of Scarborough and the District of Ryedale.

Whilst we are part of the larger Age UK family, we are governed by our own Board of Trustees and responsible for creating our own income.

All the money raised is spent locally on services for older people who live in our area. We rely on the generosity of the local community, funders and people like you. This helps us to keep the services going that are so vital to the people of our community.

Why not volunteer for us in one of the following areas!

Eastfield, Falsgrave and Filey Shops

We are looking for friendly people who like meeting others to help us in our Eastfield, Falsgrave and Filey shops and become one of the team. You could be helping to serve on the counter, sorting through and preparing stock for sale or assisting with displays. If you think this could be you, then give us a call on 01723 379058 or pop in for an application form. Alternatively, you can call Michelle, our Shop Manager on 01723 581838 for more details.

Befriending Service

Within the Scarborough, Whitby and Ryedale area there are many older people who experience loneliness or isolated; some will never go outside their own homes or see a friendly face from one day to the next.

We are looking for friendly and caring people for our Befriending service, with a view to calling a client once a week, possibly extending to even visiting once or twice a month.

If you have a empathetic and confidential nature and enjoy talking to people; if you think you can make a difference to a lonely person's life do get in touch with us, we would love you to be part of our team.

For more information pop into our Aberdeen Walk office, or call 01723 379058 and ask to speak to Laureen Downes, our Befriending/Volunteer Co-ordinator about the befriending opportunities we offer.

Ask about our other volunteering services or pop in for an application form or download it by clicking the 'How you can help us' link.

You can also help us continue the work we do with and for older people in Scarborough District by  fundraising or making a donation.
