Age Cymru has today welcomed the announcement that the Disasters Emergency Committee’s appeal to help people in drought-stricken East Africa has raised £42 million so far.

Commenting on the news, the Charity’s Head of Policy and Public Affairs, Graeme Francis says:

“10 million people in East Africa, including many older people, are desperately in need of humanitarian aid because of effects of the severe drought in that part of the country.

“That the DEC has been able to raise £42 million in just three weeks to help those people who have been affected is a significant achievement and one that the public can be very proud of.

“Age Cymru is urging anyone who has not yet donated to this appeal to give today by visiting the DEC website and finding out about how they can help the people of East Africa”.
