Older people's charities hosting a Winter Wellness event at the Hi Tide in Porthcawl

Published on 25 February 2024 07:38 PM

Age Cymru West Glamorgan with project partners Age Connects Morgannwg will host a HOPE Winter Wellness and Wellbeing event on Thursday 15 February between 10am and 2pm at the Hi Tide Inn in Porthcawl.

HOPE (Helping others participate and engage) is a partnership project delivering independent advocacy for older people (50+) and their carers across Wales.

The event will provide information and support to help those aged 50 or over, and their carers, to keep well this winter.

There’ll be information on a range of issues including advocacy, claiming benefits, housing, community safety, and how to reduce your energy bills.

There’ll be more than a dozen organisations attending including Bridgend Care and Repair, South Wales Police, Bridgend Association of Voluntary Organisations (BAVO) and Bridgend County Borough Council.

And of course, there will be free refreshments throughout the event.

Connor James, Chief Officer at Age Cymru West Glamorgan says “We’re delighted to be bringing together dozens of organisations from across the region to showcase the support that’s on offer to those aged over 50, and their carers. We encourage anyone with an interest in improving their, or their loved ones’, wellbeing this Winter to join us at the event to access vital information and support.”

Rachel Rowlands, Chief Executive at Age Connects Morgannwg says “Older people tell us that having the opportunity to talk to someone about the cost of living, caring responsibilities, access to health and social care support along with the financial help they may be entitled to, is crucially important.  We know that whilst there is a huge amount of information online, many older people cannot or do not use online platforms and so community-based events ensure we reach as many people as possible, in a place they know and in a way that meets their needs.”
