Become a Community Assistance Volunteer

Two ladies sitting have a chat

Our Community Assistance Project (CAP) needs your help to support older people in your community.

We have a range of volunteering roles to suit a variety of interests and time commitments.

The project provides two services: A community based, face to face support service called Assist and Connect and a remote telephone listening service called Listen and Connect. Both services provide friendship, conversation and support, while relieving isolation, loneliness and worry.

Assist and Connect

Assist and Connect is a face-to-face service where volunteers are linked with a member of their community who requires support. Holistic wellbeing and resilience is achieved through guided conversations which look at the whole person.

Volunteers: We recruit volunteers from across Wales in each local authority. We assess the skills and interests of each volunteer enabling us to match older people to the right volunteer. Volunteers work with the older person to move them forwards.

Who are we looking for? Anyone who is willing to support an older person in their community, giving an hour or more of their time once a week.

Assist and Connect Volunteer Role Description

Listen and Connect

Listen and Connect is a listening service for people who may be experiencing feelings of loneliness and isolation. The service provides a safe space where people are listened to and supported to explore the issues that are important to them.

Volunteers: Working from a location that suits them, volunteers give service users time and space, listen to their story, hear concerns and offer reflection and support to help them find their own way forward.

Who are we looking for? We’re looking for anyone who can give two to three hours a week to take calls from older people who are phoning for a chat.

Listen and Connect Volunteer Role Description

What support is provided?

All CAP volunteers are provided with comprehensive training and are supported every step of the way. Volunteers are given the opportunity to connect with others and the sense of satisfaction that comes from making a real difference to the lives of the people we support.
