Maintenance Cognitive Stimulation Therapy, or MCST for short, is a specific programme of group activity and stimulation suitable for use with people who are living with dementia or experiencing memory loss. Through the programme, we aim to slow the progression of dementia and improve the quality of your life, enhance your ability to communicate and help boost your mood.

What can I expect if I join a MCST group?

There will be up to ten people in each group, along with the group leader and assistant. The atmosphere is relaxed, and the idea is to have fun and get to know the other group members, as well as benefit from the activities. Sessions always begin with a tea or coffee and a chat. After that, there will be an activity, with themes added, using different materials where possible, to avoid repetition. The activities are designed to stimulate different areas of the brain each week. These activities are geared to what you, as an individual, feel comfortable doing.

How often to the sessions take place?

Each groups meets once per week and we have three sessions running:

Mondays: 10.30am - 12 noon at the Lyminge Hub
Tuesdays: 10.30am - 12 noon at the Ashford Hub
Fridays: 10.30am - 12 noon at the Lyminge Hub
