Running 10k for I&A

Age UK North Worcestershire’s Sue Harrison and her friend Helen O’Brien are taking part in the Worcester City 10K and Half Marathon Runs on Sunday 14th September to help raise funds to support the running costs of the charity’s free Information & Advice (I&A) service.

Information & Advice is at the heart of the charity’s work supporting the over 50s living in North Worcestershire. Each month the team’s trained advisors regularly support over 445 members of the community, offering information and advice on a range of topics (including social care, benefits advice, staying safe, warm and independent at home, as well as support for carers). Whilst demand for the service is increasing, the charity is finding it increasingly difficult to raise the funds needed so that it can continue to provide its free service and has recently launched it ‘£10k for I&A’ campaign.

Sue, an Assistant Manager at Age UK North Worcestershire’s High Street shop in Bromsgrove, decided to get involved saying,

“Helen and I have been friends since we were children, living in the same road, with our families being very close, so community has always been very important to me. When I originally joined the charity, I said that I would love to take part in a running event to help raise funds, but that I perhaps needed to sign up to something to encourage me start training! Through my work, I know the difference that Age UK North Worcestershire’s Information & Advice service makes for local older people, so when the charity asked for support for its ‘£10k for I&A’ fundraising campaign, I spoke with Helen and we decided to sign up together to this year’s Worcester City Runs, seeing it as a great way to that we could help to make a difference.
